Debate Over Ohio Smoking Ban Brews Again

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 – updated: 7:12 pm EDT June 25, 2008

The debate over a statewide smoking ban in Ohio is brewing once again.

Some Ohio lawmakers are proposing an exception to the ban, which has been in effect for two years.

Under the proposed bill, family-owned restaurants and privately owned clubs would be permitted to have smoking sections.

Survey: Do you think family-owned restaurants should be exempt from the state-wide smoking ban?

Locally, some people said they didn't have a problem with the ban being lifted.

"So what? They want to smoke? Let them smoke. Have non-smoking and smoking," said Jamie Richards.

Others said the decision should be the up to the business owners and not lawmakers.

"If you own a business, it (should) be your choice to do what you want to do in your business. You pay the taxes, you promote that business. It should be your choice," said Connie Donovan.
