Local Republicans, Democrats Supporting Campaigns In Different Ways

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 – updated: 9:39 am EDT July 16, 2008

Janice Raheem wants to be part of history. That's why the Wheeling resident is headed to Denver in August, on her own accord and her own money, to be part of the Democratic National Convention.

"I used to live in Denver and I was so excited when I heard that the convention was going to be there. At the time I didn't know who was going to be winning but my plans were already set," she said.

Once she arrives in Denver Raheem said she is going to look for any way to help others from West Virginia find their way around, and volunteer for Sen. Barack Obama's campaign.

"I'm hoping to see how the process. How it works,” she said. “The people that come to the convention, I think you'll see a multitude of diversity of people there."

Meantime the local Republicans are pushing the idea that you don't need money for a trip or a flight to be part of the Republican National Convention in September. You can becoming a “digital delegate” on the Convention's Web site.

"You can be involved in all of the things that go on there including the platform the credentials, the rule making and of course nominating the president,” said Elgine McArdle, a member of the Ohio County Executive Committee. "You can become involved. We encourage you in the republican party to become involved. Register to vote."
