For the third time, it will be up to taxpayers to decide if they want to pay more taxes to help fund the Jefferson County Jail.Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla has previously said without money generated from a levy, safety is at risk and the number of prisoners being held in the jail will continue to go down.Abdalla has said if he eventually has to close the jail, he will.Jefferson County commissioners met Thursday and unanimously voted to put the levy back on the November ballot.Taxpayers voted the levy down twice before. Commissioner Thomas Graham said the levy was a last resort and said he hopes taxpayers will approve it this time around to keep the jail in business.
