Voting Problem Reported, Issue Missing On Ballot

NEWS9’s Jasmine Lo has confirmed that there is a problem with paper ballots in St. Clairsville.

Belmont County Board of Elections officials said a St. Clairsville renewal levy was left off paper ballots in at least one precinct.

Board of Elections Director, Bill Shubat, said they've "isolated the problem." The state elections office has been notified and is assessing the situation.

According to Mayor Bob Vicenzo, the issue in question was not left off of absentee ballots. He said St. Clairsville only uses paper ballots.

Vicenzo is disappointed that the levy did not appear on some of the ballots. He said the renewal levy would provide the city's general fund with $48,000 for use toward streets, police protection and recreational services.

Shubat said he is working to get new paper ballots printed and delivered to the city's two polling centers. In the meantime, election officials have put the issue on a separate ballot that is handed out to every voter.

As for the people who voted on the incomplete ballot, the mayor said they're being asked to return to the polling centers and vote on those separate ballots.
