Long Voting Lines Sporadic Throughout Valley

With this election expected to have a high turnout, voters in some locations said they waited in long lines while others cast their votes quickly.

In the Wheeling area, voters said they were pleased with how quick and easy it was to cast their ballots.

"I talked with a few of my friends who live in Ohio who said they had to wait about 45 minutes. Others said they walked right in, so it's about hit or miss," said Terri Schubert, of Wheeling.

Ohio County Commissioner said the longest wait he heard of was about 20 minutes early in the morning before people headed to work.

Sims said the county had more than 4,000 early voters, which took a big chunk out of the Election Day rush.

In Ohio, many polling stations in Jefferson County reported long lines as of 6 p.m., most likely due to people voting after work.

In Monroe County, the local Board of Elections reported an 80 percent turnout, up 15 percent from the 2004 presidential election.

According to a law handed down by the Ohio Secretary of State, every voter must be in line no later than 7:30 p.m.

At that time, an elections official will stand at the back of the line and every voter in front of that spot will get to cast their ballot. Anyone who shows up after that spot marked in the line will not get to vote.

Voters must bring photo identification with their name and address, or a copy of a government document with their name and address.
