Posted: 10:36 pm EST November 4, 2008Updated: 10:40 pm EST November 4, 2008

The big state race for West Virginia voters was the governor’s race, in which Democratic incumbent Joe Manchin took on Republican contender Russ Weeks.

This vote was predicted early Tuesday night, one of the first races in the state with a clear winner.

Through fundraising, Manchin raised millions more than Weeks.

Speaking after his win, Manchin talked about the future of the coal industry in the Mountain State.

“And I’m telling you, we will be a world leader in energy,” said Manchin. “There’s going to be coal used around the world and this little state is going to show them how to do it and do it right.”
