Former Ohio Rep. John Kasich, has taken the first formal step to run for governor in 2010.

Friday, the Kasich for Ohio Committee filed a designation of treasurer with the office of Ohio Secretary of State. The designation relates to the office of Governor. Columbus attorney Brad Sinnott was named treasurer of the committee.

Kasich was recently a Fox News Channel commentator and former nine-term congressman who represented Ohio's 12th District.

Other Republicans believed to be considering a primary run include state Sen. Kevin Coughlin and former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine.

Kasich is scheduled to make an official announcement at the Lincoln Day dinner at the Steubenville Country Club Friday evening.

NEWS9's Allison Latos spoke with Kasich on his way into the Steubenville Country Club. "You aren't going to get the kind of positive news unless we make major changes. Taxes are too high, regulators, bureaucrats have beaten up small businesses to the point where they've killed jobs. We need to bright highly skilled workers to the workplace," said Kasich.
