MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- North Carolina beachfront property owned by West Virginia Rep. Alan Mollohan and a former aide is going to a courthouse auction. A legal notice in a Southport, N.C., newspaper said the property on Bald Head Island will be sold to the highest bidder on Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. The ad says the property is owned by West Virginia's 1st District representative, his wife Barbara, and Donald and Laura Kurtz Kuhns. Laura Kuhns is a former Mollohan staffer who also runs the Fairmont-based Vandalia Heritage Foundation. Mollohan secured federal funding to create the nonprofit real estate development group in 1998. Mollohan spokesman David Herring told a Morgantown newspaper that the foreclosure involves a piece of unimproved property.
