Shadyside School Officials Ask Voters To Support Renewal Levy

All-day kindergarten and an afterschool program are just two programs that could be affected if a Shadyside renewal levy doesn't pass.

Shadyside Local School District officials said they're concerned if the emergency levy isn't passed, students will be affected.

"We have elementary music and an elementary physical education program that are enhanced now thanks to the emergency levy and the grants that we're getting from the school district," said Superintendent Terry Brinker.

Brinker said this is not the first time the district requested renewal for this particular levy. In May, voters turned it down. However, the levy is still in effect because it's for the next year. This time, he hopes the outcome will be different.

"We're asking the community to again step up and provide us with tax dollars they have been providing and allow us to continue operating the program," Brinker said.

The 5.4-mill issue will be on the Nov. 2 ballot. Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.
