Kids Suspended For Using Fake Money In LunchroomBoys Used Computer, Scanner To Produce BillsUpdated: 2:06 p.m. EST December 19, 2002 PELL CITY, Ala. -- Two Alabama middle school students were suspended Friday for using fake money at school.
The Pell City Police Department is investigating the case and says the 13- and 14-year-old boys apparently used a computer and scanner to produce the fake bills. "Twenty years ago we didn't have to worry about this kind of thing," Superintendent Bobby Hatchcock said. "People couldn't do that but the technology is so good today and our kids are very good with technology." "What really tipped us off to these, they apparently tried to glue the bills together," said Officer Don Newton. "So that kind of gave a little idea of the texture not being quite right, with Elmer's glue inside the pages." Police are withholding the names of the boys. They are being charged with first-degree possession of a forged instrument. The boys have been suspended from school indefinitely and are being held in a juvenile detention facility.
