Other News: 'Dealertainers' Eerie But Interesting
Wynn Las Vegas Coming Along
Rick Garman, Vegas4Visitors.com

If you haven't had a chance to make it by the Imperial Palace lately, you really should go to check out the new "dealertainers" attraction. As the home of the long-running "Legends in Concert" impersonator show, it makes a perverse kind of sense to bring celebrity look-a-likes into the casino to deal blackjack, don't you think? Regardless it's kind of a hoot to see a pit with Marilyn Monroe, Elton John, Rod Stewart, the Blues Brothers, Elvis, and even Ray Charles dealing cards and entertaining the masses.

As usual with impersonators, the effect varies greatly, but some of the ones I saw were almost eerily accurate. If nothing else, it's a refreshing change of pace from most of the stone-faced dealers on the Strip.

You can find the "dealertainers" in the main Imperial Palace casino Thursdays through Sundays starting at 6 p.m.

I also finally got a chance to check out Air Play at the Tropicana, a free attraction under the fabled Tiffany dome in the main casino. Basically what you have is singers, dancers, aerialists, and other variety acts performing on a makeshift stage atop a bank of slot machines, smack dab in the middle of the casino. Okay, so it's not battling pirates or dancing fountains, but it's free and the folks involved are pretty darn good -- especially the aerialists, who spin and whirl and fly mere inches above the slot machines and your head.

If you're in the area, it's worth taking a look. Air Play performs daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Note that only the 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. shows feature the dancers while the daytime shows feature other variety acts.

Finally, I got an up-close view of the new Wynn Las Vegas resort a couple of weeks ago, and I'm happy to report that everything appears to be coming along quickly. According to published reports, crews are actually ahead of schedule. As it stands now, the hotel tower is probably about halfway erected (25 stories or so of an eventual 50) and the lower floors are already getting their facing, a deep coppery bronze mirror effect that will look pretty classy, in my humble opinion.

Wynn Las Vegas is currently scheduled to open in spring 2005, which sounds like a long time away, but is really only about a year and a half. Time flies.
