Weaver Activated From 15-day DL

Posted: 2:05 am EDT June 10, 2007

(Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners activated pitcher Jeff Weaver from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, prior to their interleague matchup with the San Diego Padres.

Weaver started and held the Padres to two runs -- one earned -- on two hits with three strikeouts, but left after four innings with stiffness in his lower back in Seattle's 6-5 win.

The 30-year-old Weaver had an 0-6 with a 14.32 ERA prior to being placed on the DL on May 11 with right shoulder tendinitis.

Weaver pitched for the Angels and St. Louis last season, combining for an 8-14 record with a 5.76 earned run average in 31 starts. He was traded by the Angels to the Cardinals in July after being designated for assignment, having posted a 3-10 mark with a 6.29 ERA in 16 starts.

Weaver went 5-4 the remainder of the season for St. Louis and clinched Game 5 of the World Series for the Cards. For the postseason run, he went 3-2 with a 2.43 ERA in five starts.

The Mariners also announced they have placed pitcher Jon Huber on the 15-day DL, retroactive to June 7, with a right forearm strain.
