Weir High Soccer Teams Advance To State Final

The Weir High boys and girls soccer teams will compete for West Virginia state soccer championships Saturday in Beckley.

The Red Rider girls were first to advance, with a 2-0 double-overtime win against Pikeview.

Lindsey Thorp and Milena Maragos scored the goals in the overtimes for Weir High.

Coach Chris Lefever's squad will face Charleston Catholic at 11 am Saturday, a rematch of last year's title game won by the Irish.

Friday evening, the Weir High boys advanced to the Class AA-A final, with a 4-1 victory against Oak Hill.

Weir's Chad Ford collected three goals to pace Joe Pepe's squad in the scoring column.

The Red Rider boys will face Charleston Catholic in the championship contest 45 minutes following the girls game.
