NHL Today: Kubina, St. Louis Lead Lightning

Lightning 2, Maple Leafs 1
ST. PETERSBURG -- Pavel Kubina snapped a third-period tie with his first goal of the season, lifting the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the St. Pete Times Forum. Martin St. Louis scored the other goal and Vincent Lecavalier added two assists for the Lightning, who have won their last two and six of their last seven games. John Grahame made 20 saves in the victory. Nik Antropov scored the lone goal for the Maple Leafs, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Ed Belfour made 22 saves in the loss.

Blue Jackets 3, Wild 2 (SO)
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Jaroslav Balastik scored in the final round of a shootout, lifting the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild in a thrilling contest at the Xcel Energy Center. Trevor Letowski and Duvie Westcott scored goals for Columbus, which matched a season- high with its second win a row. The Blue Jackets finished the month just 3-10. Pascal Leclaire made 32 saves in the victory and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout. Mikko Koivu and Randy Robitaille scored for Minnesota, which rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime but lost for the fifth time in its last seven outings.

Flyers 2, Devils 1
PHILADELPHIA -- Patrick Sharp's goal in the second period proved to be the winner and Robert Esche made 30 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils, 2-1, at the Wachovia Center. Mike Knuble added his 12th goal of the season and Ben Eager picked up his first NHL point in his first game for the Flyers, who have won two straight and three of their last four games. Thomas Pihlman tallied the Devils' only goal and Martin Brodeur stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced for New Jersey, which had its three-game winning streak halted.

Blackhawks 3, Kings 2
CHICAGO -- Kyle Calder scored two power-play goals to help the Chicago Blackhawks past the Los Angeles Kings, 3-2, at the United Center. Matt Ellison scored the other goal and Mark Bell added two assists for the Blackhawks, who stopped a three-game losing streak. Nikolai Khabibulin made 19 saves in the win. Eric Belanger and Pavol Demitra scored for the Kings, who have lost two straight games for the first time this season. Mathieu Garon made 32 saves in defeat.

Stars 4, Sharks 1
DALLAS -- Sergei Zubov scored a power-play goal for his 400th point as a member of the Stars and Marty Turco made 17 saves as Dallas defeated the San Jose Sharks, 4-1, at American Airlines Center. The big news came off the ice for San Jose, however, as the Sharks acquired Joe Thornton from the Boston Bruins in a trade. Antti Miettinen scored on the first penalty shot of his career and both Jaroslav Svoboda and Brenden Morrow tallied goals for the Stars, who have won two straight and seven of their last eight games.

Canucks 5, Avalanche 2
VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Markus Naslund scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Vancouver Canucks past the Colorado Avalanche, 5-2, at GM Place. Todd Bertuzzi notched his 400th point as a Canuck with an assist and Richard Park recorded his 100th career point with a helper. Sami Salo added two assists and Alexander Auld saved 30 shots in net for Vancouver, which snapped a two-game slide. Brendan Morrison scored the tie- breaking goal late in the second period. Joe Sakic had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Alex Tanguay also scored in the loss, while David Aebischer stopped 39 of 44 shots.

Mighty Ducks 6, Coyotes 1
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Dustin Penner scored the first two goals of his career and added an assist to lead the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim over the Phoenix Coyotes, 6-1, at Arrowhead Pond. Chris Kunitz tallied a goal and an assist and Ilya Bryzgalov made 16 saves for Anaheim, which won its third straight contest. Joffrey Lupul, Zenon Konopka and Teemu Selanne also notched goals for the Ducks. Mike LeClerc scored the Coyotes' lone goal and David LeNeveu stopped 29 of the 35 shots he faced for Phoenix, which had a two-game winning streak halted.
