Champions Crowned At Wheeling Hospital OVAC Girls Basketball Championships

Four new champions were crowned, and one repeated as champs Saturday in the Wheeling Hospital OVAC Girls Basketball Championships at Ohio University Eastern.


Conotton Valley repeated in Class A with a 46-30 win over Madonna. Olivia Bower led the way with 25 points for the undefeated Rockets.


Fellow unbeaten Parkersburg South won the Class 5A title, beating University 57-48.


Bridgeport fell from the undefeated ranks in the Class 2A championship, falling to Frontier 46-44. Corisa Fickiesen's bucket with four seconds left lifted the third-seed Cougars to the win.


Harrison Central won the school's first OVAC girls hoops title with a 66-58 win over top seed and defending champion Steubenville. Kara Dunfee led the way with 19 points.


Linsly also won the school's first girls OVAC hoops crown in the opener Saturday, beating Fort Frye 47-41 in double-overtime.  Sophomore Morgan Brunner's 21 points led all scorers.


All five finals will be televised Sunday on ME-TV Ohio Valley Sunday, starting with the Class A game at noon and continuing with 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A.
