Filtz resigns as coach at Canton McKinley

Updated: Tuesday, March 4 2014, 05:51 PM EST

Former Big Red standout linebacker Todd Filtz has resigned as head football coach at Canton McKinley Sr. High School.

According a release from the school, both the district and Filtz reviewed the successes of the program’s previous two years, and discussed the roles and expectations of the head football coach at Canton McKinley. The parties reached a mutual agreement that district would accept his resignation.

The district will begin a formal search process for his replacement in the next several weeks.

Filtz, who left Maple Heights in 2012 for Canton McKinley, informed his players Tuesday afternoon of the decision.

Filtz posted a 17-5 record in two seasons with a pair of playoff appearances. The Bulldogs did go 0-3 against rival Massillon in those two seasons, one of those a playoff game.

Filtz was an all-state linebacker at Steubenville for Coach Reno Saccoccia in the late 90s.
