Wheeling Park, Magnolia Off To Good Start At State Softball

Updated: Thursday, May 29 2014, 12:07 AM EDT

Wheeling Park and Magnolia both won the openers at the West Virginia state softball tournament in Vienna Wednesday.

Wheeling Park broke things open in the 4th inning to beat Ripley 7-1 in Class AAA action. Skyler Carrington picked up the victory in the circle for the Patriots.

Park's winners bracket game with Lincoln County was postponed due to rain. They'll begin Thursday morning at 9 a.m.  The winner will advance straight to the state championship series while the loser will have to come right back and play in an elimination game.

Meanwhile in Class A, Magnolia earned a 4-2 win over Sherman in the opener.  Mallory Chapman struck out 10 en route to the victory.  Davianne Croasmun hit a go ahead homer in the 4th inning. She also drove in a pair of other runs with a single.

Magnolia's winners bracket game against Buffalo was suspended in the fourth inning with the Blue Eagles trailing 1-0.

They'll resume at 9 a.m. Thursday.
