WTOV-TV9 is an NBC affiliate serving the Steubenville, Ohio and Wheeling, West Virginia television market.

The 150 largest television market in the United States, WTOV-TV is owned and operated by Cox Broadcasting, Inc. It's our honor and privilege to serve the people of the Ohio Valley, a region that includes 12 counties and over 157,000 homes in both Ohio and West Virginia.

Our call letters WTOV stand for "We're Television for The Ohio Valley!" Our mission statement is: to be an indispensable source of news, information, entertainment and sports to the people of the Ohio Valley.

Our goal over the past several years has been to put the local back into local television, and that's just what we have done. We're proud of our local event programming which has expanded to well over 200 hours each year, including the broadcast of "Jamboree in the Hills" the nation's largest country music festival, and a wide array of local sporting events. Our newscasts have grown to five local newscasts a day, and we're happy to boost that NEWS9 has been nominated by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for an Emmy award.

We're also proud of our affiliation with the number one television network-NBC, the network with the best entertainment and sports programming in the business.

We boast the best syndicated programming with The Oprah Winfrey Show, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Dr. Phil and Regis and Kelly.

Channel 9 began its operation on December 24, 1953 as WSTV-TV, a CBS affiliate, owned and operated by Russ Craft/Friendly group. In 1978, the station was sold to Ziff-Davis Broadcasting. Along with a call letter change came a change in network affiliation to NBC.

In 1983, Television Station Partners L.P. purchased WTOV-TV...and in 1996 WTOV was acquired by STC Broadcasting Inc. On August 1, 2000, Cox Broadcasting Inc. began the day-to-day management of WTOV-TV.
