Kevin Carter

Meteorologist

I was born on April 29, 1954, in Painesville, OH. Growing up in the snowbelt of northeastern Ohio, I became hooked on weather at an early age, thanks to all of the snow days I enjoyed during the snowy elementary school winters. I then pursued my love of meteorology at the Ohio State University, and earned a Master of Science in Atmospheric Sciences in 1978.

While working as an air quality planner at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission in Columbus, Ohio, I landed a freelance position at WBNS-TV as a meteorologist in 1985. For the next two years, I kept a full-time job at the Planning Commission, while filling in as the on-air meteorologist at WBNS whenever needed. This lead to my first full-time television position at WAGM-TV in Presque Isle, Maine, in 1987. At WAGM, I received my American Meteorological Society Television Seal of Approval in 1988.

I returned to my native Ohio in 1991, when I joined the NEWS 9 Team as Chief Meteorologist. This brought me back home to my family, friends, and beloved Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland sports teams. The variety of weather during the course of the year here in the Ohio Valley also provides me with a real professional challenge.

I prepare and present my own weather forecasts each evening at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. on WTOV9. My forecasts are also heard on several radio stations throughout the region. With my presence on the airwaves, I am able to share my knowledge of weather with a large audience in the Ohio Valley.

When I'm not figuring out my next forecast, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Kathy, and sons, Michael and Christopher. Watching and playing sports are among my favorite activities, especially participating as a member of the WTOV 9 All-Star Basketball team.
