Jeff Oechslein

Meteorologist

I'm meteorologist Jeff Oechslein, that's pronounced X-Line, it's German. You can see my forecast weekday mornings on NEWS 9 Sunrise and NEWS 9 Midday. Working Sunrise means waking up at 3 am, you may be asking how do I do it? I love my job and more importantly, I love weather.

I became fascinated with weather at an early age growing up in nearby Bethel Park, PA. My favorite type of weather is snow. When you are young you pray for snow, hoping for a snow day - that's how I became interested in weather. I would watch the weather on every television station and draw weather maps. I turned the family basement into a TV studio. My dad would run camera, my younger brother reluctantly read the news and I was the weatherman. My dream and goal was to become a TV meteorologist.

I pursued my goal by attending Penn State University in 1993, studying meteorology. While in college, I interned at WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh. I graduated from Penn State in 1998 and the very next day delivered my first forecast on NEWS 9.

When I'm not at work I enjoy spending time with my wife Amber. We actually met at WTOV and just got married on May 26, 2007. We both wear the black and gold with pride as we are huge Steeler fans!

I look forward to meeting you and I promise to deliver every weathercast with passion and excitement in the hopes weather touches your life as it did mine.
