We dried out in August

Previous Posts

By Kevin Carter

After a very wet July, August dried out, with 17 dry days and 4 more days with only a trace of precipitation.  Our wettest day was August 5, with 0.89 inches of rain.  Severe thunderstorms were in the area only twice during the month, on August 8 and 9.  We ended the month with 2.37 inches of rain, 0.84 inches below average.

Despite all those dry days, August was not much warmer than average.  The average high for the month was 83 degrees, only 1.1 degree above average. Low temperatures actually came in 0.3 degrees below average at 60.9 degrees; all that dry air led to cooler than average nights.  We did hit 90 or above 3 times in August, 92 on August 3, 91 on August 4, and 91 on August 31.  The coolest temperature for the month was 54 degrees observed on August 30.
